Thanksgiving

Sermons

This is the time of year in the United States where Thanksgiving is celebrated. It is important for us to be thankful for the blessings in our lives to the one who gave them to us and that is Jesus. Even things or people we may not think about how big of a blessing they are we sure do find out once they are gone so it is important to give thanks to God, also for the free gift of salvation first and foremost.

“Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.” Psalms 95:2

Being thankful for our church, pastor, Holy Ghost preaching and fellowship is something I am thankful for. There are many people who wish they could find a good church that preaches truth but they do not exist everywhere.

“Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.” Psalms 100:4

Sometimes things do not always go the way that we would like them too and that is a very normal thing for everyone. We still should be giving thanks to God because there still are many blessings He is giving us, even the air that we breathe is a blessing. It is God’s will that we give thanks always, every time we pray we should be at least thanking God for something.

“16 Rejoice evermore. 17 Pray without ceasing. 18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Too many people take everything God has done for granted. They do not even think about the cost that Jesus paid to offer eternal life and salvation to them. They are too caught up in the world to even take time to be thankful. They are never satisfied. God hates this way of thinking. The Bible tells us to stay away from these types of people.

“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” 2 Timothy 3:1-5

When we are thankful to God for the blessings He has given to us we can show it by being generous towards others. Giving generously comes from a thankful heart and God uses that to bless other people.

“10 Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;)11 Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God.12 For the administration of this service not only supplieth the want of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings unto God;” 2 Corinthians 9:10-12

Everything we do should be done out of thanksgiving to God. There is no such thing as an unthankful Christian.

“And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.” Colossians 3:17
