Out In the Cold

Sermons

cat-in-iglooI’m a bit sad this morning… there is a street cat in my neighborhood. He has been around for a year or two, and is dirty and unkept… still, I’ve always tried to get him to come eat some food, maybe get to know him and adopt him (despite my wife’s protests LOL… it isn’t that she doesn’t love animals but she recognizes that I would have a house full of animals if not for her good sense)… but this cat wouldn’t come near me in the summer, and sadly he’s even more elusive in this arctic cold. I just saw him, called and called to him and he still ran from me. It troubles me because I have no idea how he is surviving this winter.

Standing there feeling a sense of panic for the cat, I realized, this is how so many of us deal with call of Jesus Christ. He wants nothing more than to help us – adopt us even – and yet we flee into the more difficult and harmful ways. Stop running and answer the call my friends, don’t be left out in the cold.

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Revelation 3:20 ‘Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.
