Man Over Board

Jonah 1:1 The word of the Lord came to Jonah son of Amittai:2“Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.” 3 But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the Lord. 4Then the Lord sent a great wind on the sea, and such a violent storm arose that the ship threatened to break up. 5All the sailors were afraid and each cried out to his own god. And they threw the cargo into the sea to lighten the ship.

(Because of the disobedience of Jonah the entire ship was going to be destroyed by a storm sent by God. In life we are going to experience all types of storms and it takes a wise man to honestly evaluate his own life to find out the cause of the storm. Whatever you do, please do not assume your storm is a spiritual attack because of how spiritual you are! If you find yourself in a storm right now ask God if you have any Jonah’s in your life and ask God for wisdom on how to get rid of them. The people on the ship tossed out all of their material substance, cried out to their false gods and still the storm would not go away. If you are a Jonah and you refuse to obey God then your going to find your self in a storm no matter where are.)

Jonah 1:12“Pick me up and throw me into the sea,” he replied, “and it will become calm. I know that it is my fault that this great storm has come upon you.”13 Instead, the men did their best to row back to land. But they could not, for the sea grew even wilder than before.

(These men in the ship tried their best to row back to safety but the harder they rowed the worse the storm got. Do you feel like the harder you try to do good, the worse your life gets? Please consider giving up on doing things your way and consider doing things God’s way. When God speaks to us and tells us how to get rid of a Jonah in our life, then we need to obey God or the storm will destroy us! Your Jonah may be your mother, your girlfriend, your brother and your best friend. All of us are subject to have a Jonah in our life or be a Jonah ourselves. Take your Jonah and throw him over board in Jesus name!)
