Is It Worth It?
Is being a Christian worth it? To true born again believers of course it is. Although things in people’s lives do change such as activities, friends and family, being a Christian and knowing that there is hope in salvation is worth it. The initial shock of not hanging around the same people anymore or not going to the bar anymore at first for some can seem like a big deal but the deeper you get in faith and the longer you are a Christian the more the old ways of life start to seem unnatural. The Bible even says that if Jesus did not die and rise from the dead then there is no ressurrection and our faith would be in vain so if that were the case drink and party now because death is around the corner:
“16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: 17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.” 1 Corinthians 15:16-17
“If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantageth it me, if the dead rise not? let us eat and drink; for to morrow we die.” 1 Corinthians 15:32
We know that Jesus did rise from the dead. Some people use the verse above believing that the Bible is telling people to get drunk and have fun but do not read it in context. Most of the world does not really believe in Jesus so they will live like He never rose from the dead, after this life they end up going to Hell.
“6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.” Romans 8:6-8
Being a Christian does not mean that we have to be walking around miserable all of the time and reject everything that is fun. There are many Godly things to do and enjoy. Sometimes being a Christian does put us in difficult situations, such as having to tell the truth when we know it is unpopular or can have earthly consequences. But it is always worth it in the long run. Jesus says He will confess us to the Father when we confess Him before men:
“Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 10:32
Jesus is the beginning and the end. He created everything and will be there at the end of everything. He came to earth, lived and preached, was crucified, died and was buried and rose from the dead on the third day, fulfilling all of the scriptures. There is no doubt that He has risen so our faith is not in vain. What is worth more, enjoying a few decades of sin which ends up bringing STDs, hangovers, overdoses, drama and uncertainty or becoming a Christian and living a better life with a clear purpose for eternity?
“6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. 7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.” Revelation 21:6-7
