God’s Covering

“But let all those that put their trust in you rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because you defend them: let them also that love your name be joyful in you.

For you, LORD, will bless the righteous; with favor will you surround him with a shield.” Psalm 5:11-12 (KJ2)

If we are righteous, God will bless us and protect us from the evil in this world. I think we all understand, however, that this does not mean that we will not experience any sorrow or trouble during our lives. Both our life experiences and the Bible teaches us that reality. We must endure hardships, because that is part of the Divine process of preparing us for eternity with Him.

“In everything we do, we show that we are true ministers of God. We patiently endure troubles and hardships and calamities of every kind.” 2 Corinthians 6:4 (NLT)

So, we are blessed, right? We have some problems, yes, but we are shielded from the evil of this world.

But did you ever think to yourself, “I have a lot of trouble and sorrow in my life. I don’t feel particularly blessed and protected. What am I doing wrong?”

I am sure there are many of us who have experienced some very difficult times in our lives. Also, many of us face certain problems or sorrows for long periods of time.

I recently came across some statistics that I thought would be uplifting, because they might help us keep our perspective as far as the amount of trouble and sorrow that exists in our world. Please consider the following:

  1. Only 4% of the world’s population lives in America and experiences all the abundance and freedom that Americans typically enjoy.
  2. 26% of the world cannot read or write.
  3. 80% of the world lives at or below the poverty level.
  4. 13% regularly endure hunger and malnutrition.
  5. 92% have no money beyond what is in their pocket.
  6. 100 million people are homeless.
  7. 500 million people have experienced the horrors of war, prison, and/or torture.
  8. 3 billion people risk physical assault when going to their place of worship.
  9. 1 million people each day are dying.

We all have trouble, and some of us have a lot of trouble in our lives. But there is a lot of evil in the world from which God shields us. We should definitely count our blessings, and be mindful of the fact that God protects His people from horrible things Satan wants to do to us.

“Blessed is the man that hears me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

For whosoever finds me finds life, and shall obtain favor of the LORD.

But he that sins against me wrongs his own soul: all they that hate me love death.” Proverbs 8:34-36 (KJ2)
