God Is Not Your Personal Genie
God is not a genie in a lamp that is here to grant your wishes. Too often God is treated that way and it stems from lukewarm Christianity and laziness. There are many people in this world that read off a wish list to God when they pray and live a life full of sin but little do they realize that God is not even listening to their prayers. God does not hear the prayers of people living in rebellion to Him unless of course it is a cry of repentance which results in serious changes.
“Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.” John 9:31
God is treated as a genie that is expected to come to the rescue when something bad happens. All of the time people are asking for prayers and help when the problem they are in is their own fault and they have no intention to change after God would even come to the rescue. They let sin go on in their lives unchecked and oftentimes enable it in many ways and keep having the same problems and wonder why it keeps happening. Parents often are guilty of enabling their children to keep living in the same vicious cycle of sin and actually feel like victims when the results of this manifest.
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23
People let demons into their lives and do nothing to get rid of them or prevent them from taking over yet still ask for prayers from everyone when the trouble comes. You will never find them regularly attending and participating in a Biblical church or studying their Bible and applying it to their life but they will become extremely dependent on God when they need Him, just like rubbing a lamp and in a puff of smoke expecting God to make the problem vanish. No one wants to change and live according to the Word of God. They just want to keep the sins in their lives that are destroying them expecting an occasional bailout from the Most High God. The demonic oppression eventually will get so strong in these cases and God will use this oppression for people to finally wake up and get saved before it is too late. God will allow the demons to take over because sometimes it takes a person to be standing at the Gates of Hell with their flesh destroyed before they will finally cry out to God, repent, and live in God’s Will where they will not have these cycles of problems.
“4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, 5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.” 1 Corinthians 5:4-6
There is only one who acts like a stereotypical genie and that is Satan. Satan offered Jesus all the kingdoms of the earth if Jesus would worship him. If Satan can offer all the kingdoms of the earth then certainly he could grant other wishes as well like money or fame. Many famous actors and musicians have claimed to have sold their souls to Satan for money and fame and will burn in Hell as a consequence when” their wishes run out” and rightly so. Any type of genie activity would be witchcraft and the idea of a genie is demonic and fits something Satan would do.
“8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.” Matthew 4:8-9
God gave us His Word to guide our lives and teach us how to live and be in His Will. Just because we are doing this does not mean that problems and hardships will not arise. But when challenges do come we are better equipped to handle them and seek God in spirit and truth knowing that He will help us, never leave us or forsake us. A fictional genie grants any wish a person’s flesh desires. God on the other hand does listen to our requests but He answers them according to His Will because His Will is the only place where we can ever find true happiness, peace and salvation through Jesus Christ.
“14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.” 1 John 5:14-15
