Fat Sheep or Lean Sheep: Which are You?

Sermons

Today while on my way to work I was listening to a Christian radio station who was hosting a popular Christian artist.  The artist shared a Word that God had given him which continued to resonate in my heart long after I heard it.  The artist was speaking about how crazy and mind boggling our society is.   He went on to say that we have the ability to “hear” so much of God’s word, through all of the gifted Bible teachers and Christian programs we have today, as well as the variety of  methods in which to learn, through the television, internet, radio and so on.  He actually likened us to sheep getting fat on the Word of God!  That hit home.  I am guilty of immersing myself in the Word of God so much that I sometimes forget to “DO” the Word.

Here are just a few scriptures to demonstrate that hearing and doing are not just an idea, but directly from the mouth of God Himself:

Matthew 7:24-27:

24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

James 1:22-25

22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.

Luke 8:12-21

19 And His mother and brothers came to Him, and they were unable to get to Him because of the crowd. 20 And it was reported to Him, “Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, wishing to see You.” 21 But He answered and said to them, “My mother and My brothers are these who hear the word of God and do

I praise God for His Word that was given not only to the artist who shared,  but to those of us who heard it and allowed it to resonate in their hearts as well. I do not want to be a “fat” sheep full of His Word, I want to be His sheep that is also a “DOER” of the Word.  I want to be so connected to the Holy Spirit that my flesh sack is continually flowing in and then out.  I want to be a powerful witness for my Father God so that He can use my hands, feet, arms, legs, eyes, ears, lips, nose every part of me to glorify Him.  I want my heart to be aligned with His heart.  What do you want?
