Biblical Treasure Hunt

If you are seeking wisdom then you are on a Biblical treasure hunt. The Bible puts high value on wisdom:

“For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.” Proverbs 8:11

The Bible tells us that finding wisdom will bring happiness so it is no wonder that there are many who are seeking it in their lives but may not be sure exactly where to find it:

“Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.” Proverbs 3:13

Not everyone is happy finding wisdom. There are many people who do not want to find it. They like staying “willfully ignorant” as a way to escape accountability but there is no escaping accountability with God:

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction” Proverbs 1:7

Sometimes people can think they have true wisdom when they really do not. They may think that they earned it through a theology degree and are ready to argue and get into doubtful disputations over every small detail they can think of. They even will go as far in some cases as entering a church for the first time, sitting in the front row and after hearing a Holy Ghost filled convicting sermon they are ready to get up and correct everything they perceive as wrong at the end of service, even correcting the pastor. This is not the wisdom of God, it is a Satanic wisdom rooted in pride:

“14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. 15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. 16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.” James 3:14-16
James 3:14-16

So then if contrary to popular belief, wisdom is not found in a theology degree, where can someone find it?

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given” James 1:5

The Bible says that wisdom is a treasure and shows us where we can end our treasure hunt at if we want true wisdom:

“1 For I would that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh; 2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; 3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” Colossians 2:1-3

To find wisdom you have to find Jesus. If you truly find Jesus you will truly find wisdom. Jesus gives us His Holy Ghost when we are born again and wisdom is a gift of the Holy Ghost:

“8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;” 1 Corinthians 12:8
