Being Jesus

1 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, 2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be like minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. 4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. 5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.   Philippians 2:1-11

Unity is the desired state of all Christians, unity in love and faith. In order for all Christians to be of one mind it requires us to set aside our sense of self and prefer others. If you do not agree with a brother about some doctrine, can you still agree with him about the task Jesus has given us. Could we not choose instead to focus on what we agree?

We talk about Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior, yet do not honor Him personally. He said the world will know we are His, due to the love we have for one another. When have we shown that love in order for the whole world to see. It has been said we do not pick our family, neither do we pick and choose our spiritual families. We read in the Bible that there are many who will be in heaven that we do not expect to see there. There will also be many not there that we expect to see. Do we pray for unity in the faith? Do we pick and choose which sisters and brothers to love?

Let us attempt to follow the model of Jesus Christ and set upon the task of making ourselves of no reputation and become servants to all brothers and sisters. Pray that the Holy Spirit will teach you to be in unity with those around us in the faith. Those brothers and sisters that God has brought into your life, demonstrate patience and love. In our society the self is worshiped. Ask God to help you to lift up your fellow believers instead of self.
